- What is image2webp?
- image2webp is a free browser-based tool to convert common image formats to WebP and to build animated WebP files from short videos. Processing uses WebAssembly so your files stay on your device.
- Which image formats can I convert to WebP?
- You can select typical raster images your browser can decode, such as PNG, JPEG, GIF, and other image/* types supported by the file picker. Output is always WebP.
- How can I convert an image to WebP for free?
- Choose one or more JPG, PNG, GIF, or similar image files, then start the conversion in your browser. image2webp is a free image to WebP converter, and processing happens locally without uploading your files.
- Is this also an img to WebP converter?
- Yes. People search for both "image to WebP" and "img to WebP", and this tool supports both use cases: converting common image files like JPG and PNG into WebP directly in the browser.
- How does video to WebP work?
- The tool samples frames from your video and encodes them as an animated WebP, not a video file. Long clips are limited by max frames, FPS, and resolution settings to keep files reasonable and encoding fast.
- Are my files uploaded to your servers?
- No. Conversion runs locally in your browser. We do not receive your images or videos for processing. See the Privacy page for details on hosting logs.
- What WebP quality should I use?
- Quality is on a 1-100 scale. Values around 75-85 are a good balance of size and visual quality for photos and UI assets. Lower values shrink files more but may show more compression artifacts.
- Can I use it offline?
- After the first visit, cached assets may allow limited offline use depending on your browser and cache. A network connection is usually required to load the app and WASM the first time.
- Will animated WebP play everywhere?
- Animated WebP is widely supported in modern browsers. Some older clients or email clients may not animate WebP; use previews in your target environments when it matters.
